Keep Your Face Looking Fabulous This Summer
Skin, hair and nails – some of you may already know that they are made of the same substance – a type of protein called keratin (those of you who didn’t know, it may come in handy during your next trivia night!).
As we start to head into summer and can no longer hide behind our trusted winter woolies, the state of our skin becomes much more important. But never fear – you will be surprised how much a little extra care will go a long way towards keeping you looking your best this sunny summer season.
What I want to talk about this month is what the majority of us think most about –
our faces.
Skin Care Regime
Many of us try to maintain a good skin care regime, but it can be all too easy for a hectic lifestyle to get in the way of routine. A stressful job, long working hours, smoking and a bad
diet can lead to breakouts and greasy skin, while overindulgence in chocolate (leftover Easter egg anyone?) or alcohol are all too easy to succumb to. I must confess my vice is chocolate, but I am at an age where a bigger waistline, rather than spots, is the consequence (to be honest I’m not sure which I’d rather!).
The art to keeping your skin looking healthy and feeling great is understanding your body.
Factors such as skin type, metabolic rate and even your menstrual cycle can influence the
possibility of breakouts, so being aware of how and when your body changes can help you
maintain a crystal clear complexion.

Skin Care Tips
Here are some simple hints and tips to help keep your skin looking radiant:
- We all have cravings for something sweet, so try to limit your intake of sweets and
chocolate and opt for fruit instead.
- Be aware of your monthly cycle and try not to over indulge before your period.
- Wearing sunscreen daily is a sure-fire way to keep your skin looking younger for longer.
- Try to drink at least six glasses of water per day, with an extra two glasses for every
drink of tea, coffee or alcohol taken.
- If you have oily skin, tie your hair away from your face before bedtime.
Facials
Facials are a wonderful way of keeping your skin looking its best, as well as improving your mood and helping you feel relaxed. Everyone should treat themselves to at least four facials per year (try dropping a few hints before your next birthday!). There are many different types of facials, from hydrating to exfoliating, and it can be confusing to know which one to opt for.
Factors such as age, skin type and lifestyle can determine what facial treatments are best for you, so I recommend you have a basic facial initially. With a professional therapist to give expert advice and recommendations, choosing the right facial will be easy, and the result will be super-radiant skin that feels refreshed, rejuvenated and ready to take on the summer.
